Dr Seifert studied medicine at the University of Cologne in Germany and qualified in 1992. He came to the UK in 1993 and undertook postgraduate training within the Wessex School of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine. In 2001 he spent a year in America at the University of Michigan as a visiting professor. There he was closely involved in acute and chronic pain management as well as anaesthesia for vascular and transplant surgery.
He was appointed as a Consultant in Pain Management & Anaesthesia at the North Hampshire Hospital NHS Trust in Basingstoke in 2003. He re-developed the pain service at the trust for which he was given the prestigious national Pharmaceutical Care Award by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in 2005.
He has recently been appointed as the Clinical Director of the Department for Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at the North Hampshire Hospital NHS Trust, where he holds a full-time NHS appointment. In addition he practises independently at The Hampshire Clinic in Old Basing.
He is a member of the British Pain Society and the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). He runs regular training courses for GPs, medical students, allied health professionals and interested members of the public. He is involved in regular research relating to acute and chronic pain management.
