The South East Spine Club, which as the name suggests is a group of spinal surgeons from the South East area, met in June 2011. Andrew Quaile, our consultant spinal surgeon, is the founder member of this club having previously set up the South West Spine Club when working in Somerset. He organises the yearly get togethers which consist of an afternoon of lectures and discussions followed by a dinner.
The meeting in June was very well attended and as ever offered surgeons a chance to discuss current trends in spinal surgery, present difficult cases to peers and offer advice to one another as necessary in an informal setting.
The next SESC meeting is in June 2012.
Thanks goes to Surgi-C and Lindare Medical for sponsoring the event in 2011.

Andrew attended the meeting of the Editorial Board for the ’International Orthopaedics’ Journal at the beginning of November 2011 in Paris. During the course of the meeting he was asked if he would consider becoming one of the associate editor’s. Internation Orthopaedics is one of the world’s top orthopaedic journals so he was very honoured to accept this position.
Quite an amount of his off-duty time is now spent improving the english of articles submitted from all over the world. This has not only improved his knowledge of current trends in orthopaedics in many different countries but also his use of the english language!!

On Wednesday 11th May Andrew gave a lecture to a group of lawyers, from the Guildford & Woking area. The talk was on ageing and degenerative processes in the spine, with particular emphasis on the effects of injury on the ageing process. This was discussed in the legal context of ‘causation of injury, acceleration of the ageing process and aggravation of an underlying condition’. After the lecture there was time for a lively discussion and advice was given in regards to ‘live’ cases.
If any Solicitors or Barristers would like Andrew to give a talk to their practice please do not hesitate to contact Mr Quaile’s P.A. Jacqui Ross, at the Spineworks office, on 01256 377655 or email jacqui@spine-works.com.
